The Most of His Minutes
by Devon Jeffreys

Whenever he gets a chance to see time on the floor for a loaded Denver team, Nuggets reserve center Johan Petro tends to make the most of it.

The night of December 1st was no different.

Johan scored four points in just over four minutes, draining 2-4 shot attempts as the Nuggets closed out a 135-107 annihilation of the Golden State Warriors at the Pepsi Center on Tuesday.

To go along with his season-high in points, JP also had a season-high six rebounds, fifth most on the team and half as many as starting center Nene Hilario had in 25 fewer minutes.

Upon entering the game with less than five minutes to go, Johan quickly picked up an offensive foul to turn the ball over. But rather than riling him up, the foul calmed the big man down.

He knocked down a jumper on Denver’s next possession and grabbed a board that led to two more Nuggets points on the other end. After securing another rebound off an Earl Watson miss, Johan was denied at the other end by Stephen Curry. But JP persisted, grabbing his own board and throwing up a smooth turnaround hook for two more points.

Johan went on to grab three more rebounds in the final minute-and-a-half as Denver secured the win.

With the victory, the Nuggets improved to 13-5 and rebounded strongly from an embarrassing 106-100 defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. They still sit two games ahead of the Portland Trail Blazers for first place in the Northwest Division.
